SENIORS AND DISABLED CITIZENS
The Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce the “Are You Ok” (RUOK) system is now available to our county residents. This program was obtained through a TRIAD Grant that was awarded to TCSO from the Department of Public Safety, Mississippi Leadership Council on Aging.
At this time the TCSO is looking for subscribers to the “Are You OK” (RUOK) program, this is a telephone reassurance program that checks in on senior adults and disabled residents. The RUOK Program, is computer software designed to contact senior citizens and/or disabled that live alone and may not have a family member living locally that can check on them every day. It is a service offered free of charge by the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Department, to all citizens of Tishomingo County who are over the age of 60, live alone, and are home bound or medically disabled on a permanent or long-term basis, regardless of age. It can be used for short periods of time or long term.
The automated system will call subscribers every morning between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., asking, “Good morning — Are you OK today?” A response lets the system know that follow-up action doesn’t need to be taken. But if there is no answer or the telephone line is busy after three calls, one of our officers will be notified and sent to your home to check on you. If you are on vacation or have to leave your home for an extended period of time, contact the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office and advise them so we can stop the computer from calling you. When you come home simply call back and we will resume your calls.
To join this program eligible participants are required to sign up, providing basic personal information and a signed liability waive, all information provided by the participant is kept confidential and secure at the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office. To join or for more information, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 662-423-7000 or email us at s.butler@tishso.org.
We are very lucky in our community that we have a lot of people, if they’re seniors, their kids are calling every day and they have neighbors and friends getting a hold of them. But if anybody feels the need and doesn’t have a loved one, we’d be happy to be that loved one to check on them every day.
