KEEPING TISHOMINGO COUNTY SAFE
Patrol deputies are responsible for answering and handling all complaint calls and calls for service or assistance from members of the public. They are responsible for patrolling a county of 445 square miles. They patrol all county roads and provide a visible presence as a proactive measure to help deter crime. Deputies patrol and enforce state laws and county ordinances throughout Tishomingo County.
In addition to those duties, deputies make frequent building checks throughout the county to ensure the integrity of doors and windows and to check for tampering.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF PATROL DEPUTIES
Patrol deputies have the following responsibilities: responding to complaint calls, taking reports, making arrests, transporting prisoners, serving warrants, writs, subpoenas and civil papers for the court, bailiff duty, traffic control and drug eradication. They investigate accidents on county roads and perform a wide array of related duties. They also provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies in Tishomingo County and surrounding areas when called upon.
Patrol deputies respond to calls received by the 911 center and the sheriff's office. After responding the deputies gather the necessary information for a report. Once the report is written, it is forwarded up the chain of command. When the report is approved, it is turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). CID reviews these reports and begins an active investigation. Members of the Patrol Division must be well rounded in all facets of police work. They must know how to do a lot of everything because they lay the groundwork for successful closure to all cases. Normally, there are a minimum of two deputies per shift and they are supported by Auxiliary Deputies as needed and when available.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF COURT BAILIFFS
The Tishomingo County Sheriff's Office has placed Bailiffs at the Tishomingo County Courthouse. These Bailiffs are CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS by the State of Mississippi. Some of the Bailiffs are retired law enforcement officers that have decided to assist our agency and the citizens of the county, with protecting the court where the people can feel safe while attending to important matters concerning their lives with the different branches of government that are housed inside the courthouse.
These Bailiffs serve a very important role with assisting visitors, protection of county employees, as well as serving the different levels of the court system, whether it be Justice, Chancery, or Circuit courts. We are proud to have these officers protecting our primary location to serve justice and conduct business for the citizens of Tishomingo County.
ADDITIONAL PATROL...
LAKE PATROL
In addition to normal patrol duties, the Tishomingo County Sheriff's Office maintains an agreement with the United States Army Corps of Engineers to provide patrol to the USACE recreational areas located in Tishomingo County.
During peak summer months an additional deputy is assigned to patrol Old Bridge Beach as well as Piney Grove Beach to ensure these areas maintain a family-friendly atmosphere.
Additional patrols are made throughout the Old Bridge Beach Recreational Area as well as all boat ramps located on Bay Springs Lake and also around the JP COLEMAN PARK CAMPGROUNDS.
This is done with the coordination of not only the United States Army Corps of Engineers but also with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.
