PRESS RELEASE
**UPDATE**
June 21, 2017
The Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department would like to inform the community that the inmates that had escaped our facility last week have been captured.
On June 14, 2017, JONATHAN DAKOTA HAMM and ISSAC LENAN BENNETT were able to damage an exterior door of the facility which allowed them to reach the outside perimeter and eventually escape. While law enforcement was closing in on the escapee’s, a vehicle was stolen from the Mill Street area of Iuka. A shirt found at the scene of the stolen vehicle was verified as clothing from the Tishomingo County Jail. At this time, the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s due to possibility of the escapee’s crossing over into another state.
On Saturday June 17, 2017, the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department received word from the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department that the stolen vehicle from Iuka was located in their jurisdiction. Iuka Police were notified and they began making contact with the Kansas City law officials.
On Tuesday June 20, 2017, the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department received confirmation that the Las Vegas Police Department had made contact with both inmates. According to the report, Bennett was driving vehicle that was stolen from the Las Vegas area. Hamm was a passenger in the vehicle and gave the officers false information as to who he was. At the time of BENNETT’s arrest, HAMM was not being detained due to give false information as to who he was and where he was from.
Sheriff Daugherty stated that due to Tishomingo Sheriff’s Dispatcher, Marco Cordoba’s knowledge of the entire situation, Cordoba was able to inform Las Vegas Police of all the information on both Bennett and Hamm. With this new information, the Las Vegas Police were able to correctly identify JONATHAN DAKOTA HAMM as the passenger in the stolen vehicle with ISSAAC BENNETT. Sheriff Daugherty states that “Marco done an excellent job by staying in contact with not only the Las Vegas Police Department, but the actual officers there at the scene.”
Both BENNETT and HAMM remain in custody at the Clark County Detention Center where they face additional charges of GRAND LARCENY and CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT GRAND LARCENY. Both of the escapee’s will be brought back to Mississippi and another date to face the ESCAPE charges as well as the STOLEN VEHICLE from Iuka.

IUKA, MS June 14, 2017: On June 14, 2017 at approximately 1:00 am, two inmates have escaped from the Tishomingo County Jail. A Correction Officer spotted the two inmates while doing a perimeter check of the outside of the facility. It appears that the inmates were able to force open an outside door and once out the door, the inmates scaled the fence and it appears one of the inmates was cut from the fence. The escapee’s then ran down the railroad tracks and were able to steal a white 1995 FORD F-150 pickup truck. The Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department also notified the Mississippi Department of Corrections due to both the escapee’s being on probation with the MDOC. The escaped inmates are not considered “DANGEROUS”, but the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department would advise anyone that comes in contact with these escapee’s, to notify their local law enforcement agency or simply dial 911.
The two escaped inmates are as follows:
- JONATHAN DAKOTA HAMM

HEIGHT: 5’10” / WEIGHT: 160 LBS

- ISSAC LENAN BENNETT
